How to Brush Your Child’s Teeth

The parents will need to brush the child’s teeth till about 6 years old. By age 6 or 7, the children should be able to do that by themselves. Here are some tips for proper brushing.

  1. The ADA recommends a pea-sized drop of tooth paste for children with age 2-6. For children under 2, use only water unless your pediatric dentist recommends toothpaste instead.
  2. Place the tooth brush against the gums.
  3. Move the brush back and forth in short strokes gently. Brush the outer surfaces of each tooth, upper and lower. Repeat the same for inside surfaces and chewing surfaces.
  4. Finish by brushing the tongue to help freshen breath and remove bacteria.
